Programming is kind of a job that leaves huge impressions because it is complex mixture of logic and maths. In every job there are psychological impacts. As I understand it, this book is a cult classic, and I was very curious to read it. A Linguist, John Grinder and Mathematician, Richard Bandler created NLP during the seventies with strong interests in successful people, psychology, language, and computer programming. In addition to Krebs makes a good argument, I think there are several other reasons why we might want to consider treating computer programming as a core part of the liberal arts education. Gerry was one of the programming gurus of the 70's and his book The Psychology of Computer Programming is based on a system of peer reviews and aims to take the negative aspects of “ego” out of programming. Has anyone else found anything better? I recently read (sort of) Frederick Brooks's The Mythical Man-Month. I got a "new" book in the mail a few weeks ago and finally had time to crack it open, "The Psychology of Computer Programming" by Gerald M. A couple of months ago the topic of psychology and computer programming came up in a thread; it was noted there didn't seem to be a lot of work done in the area (iirc). Many years ago I read "The Psychology of Computer Programming" first edition, and found it to be the best book that I had ever read about the field of computer programming. The new site Code.org launched today to try to change that by helping grow computer programming education in the United States.
